Book of Vikings: longships, runes and a well-thumbed book

From the Nile to the fjords

Swap the desert for cold seas, carved prows and warriors in fur and iron. Book of Vikings is Pragmatic Play's Norse spin on the book format, and the change of setting gives it a heavier, more rugged look than the Egyptian titles in the same family.

Under the helmets, the book idea is what drives the game: a book symbol that substitutes on the reels and opens free spins when enough of them land, with an expanding symbol as the centrepiece of the bonus. If you've played any book slot before, you'll know where to look within a few spins.

Read the paytable first

We'd rather not guess at the grid or the exact free spins rules for this one, and Viking-themed versions sometimes add their own touches. The paytable in the demo sets it all out: line count, free spins awarded, how the expanding symbol is chosen and any extra feature. It's also where you can see which of the Viking characters pays best.

Playing Book of Vikings free

The demo opens with 1,000 virtual credits, no sign-up and no download. Book slots run hot and cold, so commit to 200 spins at a fixed stake, the equivalent of £0.50, before deciding anything. Keep a quick tally of bonuses reached and what each one paid. If you have a favourite Egyptian book slot, play the same number of spins on it afterwards: the comparison tells you whether the Viking version plays differently or just looks different.

There's no bonus buy in this version, so the free spins only come through the scatters. When you're ready, the same game is available for real money at the casinos listed below.
