Fruit Shop: where fruit wins buy you free spins

A fruit machine with a twist

Fruit Shop looks like a throwback: cherries, lemons, plums, oranges and a watermelon, plus card ranks, on five reels with 15 paylines and a cheerful greengrocer's backdrop. NetEnt could have stopped there. Instead it attached the free spins to the fruit themselves, which changes the way the game feels.

There's no scatter to wait for. When you land a winning line made of fruit symbols, you are paid and awarded free spins as well. The more fruits in the line, and the more valuable the fruit, the more spins you get.

The wild and the free spins

The Fruit Shop wild substitutes for the other symbols and, in the base game, doubles the wins it helps make. During free spins every win is doubled instead, and fruit wins can award more spins, so a round can extend itself several times over. Small combinations that would be throwaway wins in another slot keep the round alive here.

That makes the game feel generous on short sessions, even though the wins themselves are rarely huge.

Play Fruit Shop free: what to watch

The demo opens with 1,000 virtual credits, no account and no download. A few simple checks:

• Play 200 spins at a stake equivalent to £0.15 and note how often fruit wins send you into free spins.
• In each free spins round, count how many extra spins you collect along the way.
• Look at which fruit gives the most spins on the paytable, then see how often it actually lands.

Fruit Shop or the Christmas edition?

NetEnt also made Fruit Shop Christmas Edition, which keeps the same mechanics under a snowy, festive skin. If you want the year-round original, this is the one. If you fancy a seasonal change, the rules transfer exactly. The same game runs for real money at the casinos below.
