Halloween Jack: pumpkin heads and creeping wilds

Meet Jack

NetEnt's Halloween Jack is built around a single character: a lanky figure with a glowing jack-o'-lantern head who roams a moonlit village. The symbols include cursed objects, candles, potions and pumpkins, with the usual card ranks for the smaller wins. The colours are deep purples and oranges, and the animation when Jack appears is genuinely creepy rather than cartoonish.

Compared with The Wolf's Bane, NetEnt's other gothic slot, Halloween Jack is more playful in tone and more focused on what the wild can do.

Wilds with a mind of their own

Jack is linked to the wild features, and that is where the game earns its name. In the free spins especially, wilds don't just sit still: they move and spread across the reels, so one good wild can contribute to several spins in a row. Watching a wild creep across the grid, helping a line each time, is what makes the round memorable.

Scatter symbols trigger the free spins. The paytable explains exactly how many you need and how the wild features behave, which is worth checking before you start.

Playing Halloween Jack free

The demo opens in your browser with 1,000 virtual credits. No sign-up, no download. To see the game properly:

• Play 200 to 250 spins at a stake equivalent to £0.20.
• Count how many spins a wild survives on the reels during free spins.
• Compare the base game with the bonus: in this slot most of the value is concentrated in the feature, and the demo shows you how long you may wait for it.

When to play it

Halloween Jack naturally gets more attention in late October, but the mechanics hold up at any time of year. If you enjoy wild features that build over several spins, give it a session. The same game is available for real money at the casinos below.
