Rain, pink and cyan neon, a city of signs behind a rooftop edge, and a stout raccoon-dog samurai in glowing armour holding up a gold coin with a grin. Neon Ronin looks like a late-night anime and plays like a tidy, focused slot built around one idea: wilds that grow. The Neon Ronin demo on this page lets you play it free with virtual credits, no download and no sign-up.
The grid and the paytable
The game runs on 5 reels and 3 rows with 20 fixed paylines, paying left to right. Only the highest win on each line is paid, and line wins are added together. The Neon Katana is the top symbol, and a line of five wilds pays the same as five Katanas. The paytable shows two columns, one for the base game and one marked FS ×1 for free spins before the multiplier is applied, so it is worth opening once to see how the values compare.
Cyber Fox wilds that fill the reel
The wild is the Cyber Fox. It substitutes for every paying symbol except the scatter, and whenever one lands it expands to cover its entire reel for that spin. A single fox on reel three therefore turns three positions wild at once, which can connect several of the twenty lines in one go. Two or three expanded reels on the same spin is where the base game produces its better results.
Free spins: sticky reels and the multiplier
Three or more Holo Scrolls anywhere pay a scatter prize and award 10 free spins; during the feature, another three scrolls add five more. This is where the game changes character. Every expanded wild reel becomes sticky and stays in place for the rest of the feature. A global win multiplier starts at ×1 and rises by one for each new wild reel, up to ×5. So the free spins tend to build: an early fox makes every later spin stronger, and by the end you may have two or three reels locked as wild. Any round is capped at 5,000× the bet, and the round ends if it gets there.
Buying the feature in the free version
Neon Ronin has a bonus buy at 100× the bet. It triggers the free spins straight away and always lands at least three Holo Scrolls. In the demo it costs only virtual credits, which makes it the ideal place to test it. Buy the feature five or six times at a small stake, around 20p, and note the final multiplier and number of sticky reels each time. You will quickly see how much a feature depends on catching a fox early.
Getting a feel for the base game
Before buying anything, spin a hundred times or so and watch how often a fox appears and expands. Hold the space bar for turbo spins on desktop; T, M and I toggle turbo, sound and the paytable. Autoplay can be set to stop when a bonus triggers.
Neon Ronin is a Nocturn Play title and plays well in a phone browser. Demo wins are not real. The same game is available for real money at the casinos below.
