A ship across the reels, not a payline

The poster sets the tone before you press anything: a grinning, scarred raider with a braided beard and a gold-chased helmet, axe raised into a blizzard. Nocturn Play carries that cold blue-grey colour scheme into the game, with snow drifting over a grid of 4 reels and 5 rows. There are no lines to pick. Matching symbols on neighbouring reels, counted from the left, pay across 625 ways, and a win needs either 3 or 4 reels. Spins resolve quickly and you always know where you stand.

The symbols are easy to read: runes at the bottom of the paytable, then the axe, the helmet, the wolf and Mjölnir at the top. Every combination of the same symbol is added together, which counts for more than you might think on a grid this tall.

What the longship actually does

The wild is a longship, and it only lands on reels 2 and 3. When it appears it sails across its row and turns every symbol on that row into a joker. Horns and runic coins keep their own role, so the ship never swallows a bonus trigger. In practice one ship on a middle row can join up symbols on both sides that would otherwise have paid nothing. The whole game is built around that moment, which is why a free session is worth more than ten quick spins.

Two bonuses with very different moods

The Storm

Three or more horns start the Storm: 8, 12 or 16 free spins. Each row a longship sails across pushes the storm multiplier up, to a ceiling of ×12, and it stays put for the rest of the bonus. Three more horns during the Storm add 5 spins, with 40 spins as the hard limit. A quiet start is normal; the round comes alive once the multiplier has climbed a few steps early on.

The Raid

Six or more runic coins start the Raid, a Hold & Win round. Coins lock, the empty cells spin again, and you get 3 tries that go back to 3 each time a new coin sticks. Every full row wins its rune: Fehu, Thurs, Ansuz, Raido or Odal. With two full rows, new coins are worth ×2; with four, ×3. Fill the entire grid and you collect the grand loot. Across the whole game the cap is 5,000× the bet.

How to test it properly in the demo

• Play 150 to 200 base spins at one fixed stake, the equivalent of £0.50 for instance, before changing anything. Note how often a longship lands and how often it actually completes a win.
• Keep an eye on the coins. Five on screen is a near miss you will see regularly; six opens the Raid.
• Then try the bonus buy with virtual credits. The Storm costs 45.7× the bet and the Raid 51.2×. Buy each one two or three times and you will soon know which you prefer: the slow multiplier build or the sticky-coin grid.
