Gridiron Noir: a football slot where wins move the ball downfield

Most slots forget each spin the moment it ends. Gridiron Noir does not. Every win pushes the ball towards the end zone, the field position stays on screen between spins, and a run of dead spins can cost you the ball. It turns an ordinary base game into something closer to a drive in the fourth quarter. You can play Gridiron Noir free on this page in demo mode, with virtual credits, no download and no sign-up.

Reels, ways and the Floodlight

The grid is 6 reels by 4 rows with 4,096 ways to win: three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost one, on any row. The symbols are pure gridiron, from the trophy and champion ring down through helmet, football, stopwatch, whistle, goal posts and penalty flag. The Floodlight wild appears on reels 2 to 6 and stands in for everything except the golden ball. Brutus, a bulldog in black and gold, watches from the sideline and snaps the ball when you tap him.

The drive and the turnover

This is what makes the game. Each winning spin gains 5, 10, 25 or 50 yards depending on the size of the win, and gaining 10 yards earns a fresh first down. You have four downs to make those 10 yards. A losing spin, or a win too small to complete the distance, uses up a down; if the fourth one ends short, the ball goes back to your own 20. Each bet level keeps its own drive, so if you had a promising position at £0.40, switching to £1 means starting a different series.

Overtime and the last-second pass

Score a touchdown, or land three or more golden balls, and Overtime starts with 8 free spins (10, 12 or 15 with four, five, or six or more golden balls). A touchdown and golden balls on the same spin add four more. In Overtime the symbols pay about one and a half times their usual values, and each winning free spin moves a multiplier up a ladder: ×1, ×2, ×3, ×4, ×5. Another three golden balls add four spins, up to 20 in all.

When the last free spin is done, the clock freezes at 0:01. You choose a receiver, left, middle or right. A catch multiplies the entire Overtime total by ×2, ×3, ×5, ×10 or ×25; a deflection simply keeps the total as it was. The game caps any round at 5,000× the bet.

A sensible demo plan

Give the base game at least fifty spins at a fixed stake so you can see how often drives reach the end zone and how often they stall on fourth down. Then use the Overtime buy, priced at 62× the bet, a handful of times. Buying does not touch your current drive, which is worth knowing. Compare the totals before and after the pass: the ×25 catch is rare, but it is where the bigger results come from.
