Fox Festival: a free pachinko-style ball drop

Five drop points, fourteen rows of lantern pegs and three spirit foxes waiting to start a parade. Here is how the Fox Festival demo plays and what to watch for.

A red moon sits behind a torii gate, and three foxes – one ember-orange, one white as moonlight, one inky black – each carry a paper lantern. That is the poster, and the game itself keeps the same palette. Fox Festival from Nocturn Play is not a reel slot at all: it is a ball-drop game in the pachinko tradition, and the free demo lets you learn its quirks with virtual credits, no sign-up and no download.

How a launch works in the Fox Festival demo

Along the top rail sit five drop points. You choose one, set your bet (there are seven bet levels) and launch. The ball rattles down fourteen rows of lantern pegs and lands in one of nine pockets. The pockets at the edges pay the most, up to 10× the bet; the ones near the middle pay less. The centre pocket is a special case, covered below.

One thing worth knowing early: the drop point changes the path the ball takes, never your chances. The result is decided the moment you bet, and the bouncing only shows it. So there is no "lucky lane" to find – pick whichever one you enjoy watching.

Gates, windmills and foxes on the board

  • Torii gates multiply a ball's win by ×2, ×3, ×5 or ×10. Pass through two and they multiply each other.
  • Windmills give the ball a second path; it keeps the better of the two pockets.
  • Spirit foxes – touch one and the Fox Procession opens once the ball has landed.

The Fox Procession and the four jackpots

The Procession is where the game changes pace. A rain of balls falls, and every peg touched nudges a multiplier upwards. Which fox leads the parade matters. The Ember Fox brings 10 balls starting at ×1, adding 0.01 per peg. The Moon Fox brings 8 balls from ×2, adding 0.02. The Ink Fox brings only 6 balls but starts at ×3, adds 0.04 per peg and puts the jackpot much closer.

Meanwhile five lanterns fill up as balls hit pegs, gates, windmills, edge pockets and jackpots. Each of the first four lanterns you light adds a ball; the fifth adds two balls and +1 on the multiplier. Watching that bar is half the fun.

The centre pocket opens a four-level jackpot: Bell, Moon, Sun and Grand Fox, the last worth up to 2,000× the bet. Jackpots pay their fixed value and are not boosted by gates. The overall cap is 5,000× the bet.

Buying the Procession with virtual credits

The Procession button skips the wait for 72× the bet, and the leading fox is drawn at random. In real money that is a serious outlay, which is exactly why the demo is the place to try it. Buy it five or six times in a row with your play balance and note which fox turns up and how many lanterns you light. You will get a far better feel for its swings than any description gives you.

A sensible way to test Fox Festival free

Start with around 100 normal launches at a low bet level. You will see how often gates appear, how rarely a fox is touched, and how the edge pockets compare with the middle. Then turn on Turbo or Autoplay – there is an option to stop automatically at the Procession – and let another few hundred balls fall while you watch the balance curve. After that, try the buy. It plays smoothly in a mobile browser, portrait or landscape.

Everything in the demo runs on credits with no value. The same game runs for real money at the casinos listed below.

Questions players ask

Can I play Fox Festival free on my phone?

Yes. The demo runs in any modern mobile browser, in portrait or landscape, with no app and no download.

Does the drop point affect what I win?

No. The result of each launch is decided when you bet. The drop point only changes the path the ball takes on screen.

Can I buy the Fox Procession in the demo?

Yes, for 72× the bet in virtual credits. The fox leading the parade is drawn at random each time, so it is worth buying a few in a row to see the difference.

Is the demo the same as the real-money version?

The rules, pockets and features are identical. The only difference is that demo credits have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn.
