Book of Aztec: Amatic's temple run on five reels

Jungle stone instead of desert sand

Plenty of book slots send you to Egypt. Amatic took the same structure and moved it to Central America: carved masks, a feathered idol, a jaguar statue and an explorer who pays best of all. The card ranks fill the low end of the paytable, and the golden book sits above everything as the symbol that matters.

The Book of Aztec slot runs on five reels and three rows. The book substitutes for the other symbols to complete lines and also works as the scatter, so three or more anywhere on screen start the free games.

The expanding symbol in the free games

Before the free spins begin, one symbol is picked at random as the special symbol. During the feature, whenever that symbol lands on enough reels to pay, it expands to fill its whole reel and pays across the lines, even when the icons are not next to each other. A low card symbol picked as special lands often; the explorer lands rarely but covers the screen in style when it does. Book symbols can retrigger the feature.

Outside the bonus, Amatic adds a gamble option after a win: guess the colour of the next card to double the amount, or collect and move on.

How to test Book of Aztec in demo mode

You get 1,000 virtual credits and no account is needed. Set a small stake, say the equivalent of £0.20, and play 300 spins. Count how many base-game spins pass between features; book slots tend to make you wait, and the demo is the place to learn how long. When the free games land, note which symbol was chosen and how many reels it covered.

Leave the gamble alone for the first session. It adds noise to your notes without telling you anything about the reels.

Who it suits

Players who already like the book format and want a different backdrop. The game is no-frills, quick to spin on mobile and easy to read. If the temple keeps you interested, the same game runs for real money at the casinos below.
