Highway Kings: big rigs and no-nonsense spins

Life on the road

Highway Kings is Playtech's tribute to American trucking. The main symbols are customised lorries in different colours, alongside classic card ranks and a few roadside extras. The background is a long, sunlit desert highway. It is unashamedly simple, and for many players that's exactly why they keep coming back to it.

How it plays

The game uses five reels and three rows with a small number of fixed paylines. There are no free spins and no bonus game: everything happens in the base game, and each spin is decided on its own. Wins come from lining up the trucks, with the most impressive rigs paying the most, while the card symbols fill in with smaller, frequent wins.

Without a feature to wait for, the rhythm is very even. You will rarely see dramatic swings in either direction, which suits short sessions and players who prefer to see their balance move in small steps.

Highway Kings free play: what to look at

Highway Kings is free to play here with 1,000 virtual credits, no download and no sign-up. Because there's nothing hidden, the demo is quick to understand:

• Play 150 spins at a stake equivalent to £0.10 or £0.20.
• Note your balance every 50 spins to see how gently it moves.
• Check the paytable to see which truck pays the most, and how often you actually see it on a line.

If you have been playing feature-heavy slots, a session on Highway Kings is a useful reminder of how a plain line slot behaves.

Highway Kings or Highway Kings Pro?

Playtech later released a Pro version that added extra features to the same theme. If you want the original, unadorned version, this is it: trucks, lines and nothing else. The same game runs for real money at the casinos below.
