Funky Monkey: an old Playtech favourite with a sense of humour

From the early days of online slots

Funky Monkey dates from the period when online slots were still finding their style, and you can tell. The graphics are simple, bold and cartoonish: a grinning monkey, bananas, coconuts, tropical fruit and jungle trinkets. There's no story, no cinematic intro, just a cheerful game that loads fast and plays quickly. For players who remember the first wave of internet casinos, it's a bit of nostalgia.

How it plays

Funky Monkey is a line slot where the monkey is the star symbol and linked to the wild. The bonus feature is the moment to look forward to, triggered by its own symbols and presented with the same playful humour as the rest of the game. As with all older Playtech titles, the paytable is short and clear: open it once to see the trigger and what the bonus can award.

The base game delivers mainly small and medium wins. Its rhythm is easy-going, without long silent stretches or dramatic spikes.

Funky Monkey in free play

Funky Monkey is available here as a free demo with 1,000 virtual credits, no download and no sign-up. To make the most of it:

• Play 150 to 200 spins at a stake equivalent to £0.10 or £0.20.
• Note how often the monkey turns a near miss into a win.
• Keep playing until the bonus appears, and see how its result compares with your base-game total.

This version sits alongside a jackpot edition in some lobbies. The free demo here is the standard game, which is the best way to learn the rules before trying anything else.

Who will enjoy it

Funky Monkey suits players who like retro slots with a light touch and no learning curve. If you want modern mechanics such as cascades or expanding grids, you will find it basic. If you want a relaxed few minutes with a cheeky monkey, it does the job. The same game runs for real money at the casinos below.
