Age of Troy: the siege, told on five reels

Heroes and a wooden horse

The siege of Troy is one of the oldest stories there is, and Age of Troy borrows its best-known images. Warriors in crested helmets, shields, and other images from the legend appear on the reels, while card royals fill the lower part of the paytable. The artwork is darker and more dramatic than EGT’s fruit slots, with heavy golds and reds that suit the subject.

Free spins at the centre

Like most of the studio’s story slots, Age of Troy builds towards a free spins round. Scatters landing anywhere on the reels set it off; the info screen gives the exact trigger and the number of spins, and any extra rule used during the round. Reading it first is useful, since that is where the game’s personality lies.

In the base game, wins come along the lines. Royals keep things moving, and the warriors and themed symbols carry the bigger pays. Expect stretches of quiet spins between the moments that matter, which is normal for a slot of this type.

The gamble

After any win, the EGT gamble screen offers double or nothing on the colour of a hidden card. You can always skip it and collect.

A word on stakes: on a slot where much of the value sits in the bonus, a lower bet per spin lets you stay in the game long enough to reach it. In the demo that costs nothing, but it is a good habit to carry over to real play.

Play Age of Troy free

The Age of Troy demo starts with 1,000 virtual credits, no account and no download. For a fair look at the bonus, play 300 spins at the equivalent of £0.10 a line, noting each trigger and what the round paid. Keep an eye on how often two scatters land without a third: it gives you a sense of how close the bonus feels during play. The same game runs for real money at the casinos listed below.
