Striking Hot 5: red sevens on a velvet curtain

A giant red seven hangs over a deep red curtain, with lemons, grapes, an orange and a slice of watermelon tumbling around it and a gold dollar sign tucked in the corner. That poster sums up Striking Hot 5 well: the most traditional line-up there is, presented with a bit of casino-floor glamour. The Striking Hot 5 demo needs no account and starts with 1,000 virtual credits.

What you get on screen

Five fixed paylines, so the stake is never spread thin and every winning line is easy to follow. The symbols are the ones anyone who has stood in front of a pub fruit machine will recognise, with the seven as the big payer. The dollar sign works as a scatter-style symbol, so check the paytable to see how many you need and where they count. There are no layers of features to learn. It is a game of short sessions and fast decisions, and it suits players who find modern bonus-heavy slots too slow between results.

How it differs from its neighbours

Compared with Shining Hot 5, the difference you notice first is presentation: the curtain backdrop, the sound and the way wins are celebrated. If you enjoy one, you will probably get on with the other, so the free play is a good way to choose on taste alone. We have kept this page short on purpose: rather than guess at details, it is better to open the paytable inside the game, which lists every symbol value and any extra rule the version on offer includes.

A quick test routine

• Open the paytable first and check the scatter and any special symbols.
• Play 100 spins at a flat stake and keep a rough count of winning spins.
• Try a session on your phone: the simple layout is well suited to small screens.
