Great Rhino free play: the original savanna slot

Safari slots are a crowded field, yet Great Rhino became one of the titles that defined the Pragmatic Play look a few years back: crisp African wildlife art, a sunset over the plains, and a rhino that dominates the reels whenever it lands in a block. It spawned a whole family of sequels, so this original is worth knowing. The Great Rhino demo starts you with 1,000 virtual credits, without a download and without a sign-up.

Reels, wilds and the big animals

The layout is a classic five-reel, three-row slot with fixed paylines. Card values make up the lower end; the crocodile, gorilla, cheetah and flamingo-style wildlife sit above them, and the rhino is the premium symbol. A wild stands in for regular symbols, which helps complete lines that would otherwise fall one short. Because the rhino often arrives in stacks, a single spin can cover a lot of the screen with it, and that is when the game feels most alive.

Super Respin and free spins

The feature most people associate with this Great Rhino slot is the Super Respin: rhino symbols are held in place while the other positions spin again, giving the screen a chance to fill with more of them. Separately, scatters on the reels open a free spins round. The in-game rules give the precise trigger conditions for both, and it is worth reading them so you recognise what is happening when the screen freezes.

How to play Great Rhino free sensibly

Play 150 to 200 spins at one stake, around £0.20. Count how often stacked rhinos appear, how often the Super Respin starts, and what each one returns compared with your stake. Then note the free spins, if they arrive. This also gives you a benchmark if you later try the Deluxe or Megaways versions, because you will know how the original behaves. The same game is available for real money at the casinos listed below.
