Heart of Rio: carnival colour in free play

Samba music kicks in the moment the reels load, and the screen is all feathers, sequins and confetti. Heart of Rio is Pragmatic Play's take on the Brazilian carnival, with dancers and parade costumes as the premium symbols and a nighttime Rio skyline behind the reels. It is a lively, colourful slot, and you can play Heart of Rio free here with 1,000 virtual credits: no account, no download.

On the reels

The game uses a familiar reel layout with fixed lines. The carnival dancers and their headdresses sit at the top of the paytable, with simpler symbols below. A wild helps complete lines, and the special symbols that drive the bonus features are easy to spot thanks to their gold framing. Since this is not one of the studio's most documented titles, the safest guide to the exact rules is the game itself: open the information screen before you spin and read how the features are triggered and what they award.

A practical Heart of Rio demo session

Carnival themes are fun, but judge the game on how it plays rather than how it looks. A simple routine:

• keep the stake fixed, around £0.25, for 150 spins;
• count wins that at least cover the stake;
• note each time special symbols land and whether they lead anywhere;
• when a feature triggers, write down its result next to what you spent waiting for it.

If the bonus is slow to appear, run a second block before drawing conclusions.
