Shooting, not spinning
Lava glows orange across the whole screen, coins pop out of the crust and a stone golem with a burning core looms in the background. That is the scene on the Magma Mayhem poster, and the game itself looks much the same. It is a shooting game built on the fishing-game model: creatures cross the lake, you tap where you want to fire or hold to keep firing, and a captured target pays its multiplier times your bet. Shots bounce off the edges until they connect, and a shot that hits nothing is refunded.
Each shot costs the bet multiplied by the weapon cost, and higher bets upgrade the look of the mortar through three levels. The server decides each capture; your job is choosing what to aim at.
The volcano that pays for free
The feature that sets Magma Mayhem apart from other free fishing games is the eruption meter. Every shot that hits something heats up the volcano. Any hit can set it off, roughly once per full gauge on average, and when it blows, meteors rain down on the targets on screen at no cost to you. Watching the gauge climb gives the session a rhythm that pure target shooting lacks.
What lives in the lava
The common creatures run from the Ember Wisp at ×2 through the Lava Snail (×3), Obsidian Beetle (×5), Magma Toad (×8), Basalt Tortoise (×10), Cinder Bat (×15), Magma Wyrmling (×20) and Lava Eel (×30) to the Magma Kraken at ×40. The Golden Phoenix carries a random ×50 to ×100. Two special targets widen the damage:
- Lava Bomb: explodes and takes every target around it.
- Chain Charge: the blast jumps to up to eight targets for one combined prize.
Bosses arrive with a BOSS INCOMING alert and escape if they make it across the screen. The Obsidian Scorpion King pays a random ×100 to ×200 and the Inferno Wyrm ×120 to ×300. The Molten Golem wears six crust plates; each plate you crack raises the multiplier of its core, from ×150 to ×600. A single shot pays at most about 2,500 times the bet.
Three weapons
- Rock mortar (×1): one target, the default choice.
- Freeze cannon (×4): hits a target, spreads to four more and slows the whole lake for three seconds.
- Drill torpedo (×10): flies in a straight line and pierces up to eight targets.
Auto keeps the mortar firing, and Lock tracks the most valuable target or the one you tap.
Making sense of the Magma Mayhem demo
Play Magma Mayhem free for fifteen minutes before forming an opinion, since the eruption needs a stretch of hits to show itself. Start with the mortar at a modest bet, around the equivalent of 10p, and count how many hits it takes before the volcano goes. Then try the freeze cannon on a busy lake: slowing everything for three seconds makes the drill torpedo easier to line up straight afterwards. Keep an eye on the Golem's plates during a boss pass, as the multiplier climbs visibly with each crack.
No sign-up, no download, and it works in a mobile browser as well as on desktop. When you want to play with real stakes, the same game runs for real money at the casinos listed below.
