Rise of Ra: EGT under the desert sun

Setting the scene

EGT has returned to ancient Egypt many times, and Rise of Ra is the title many players reach for first. The reels sit in a stone temple frame, warm gold and blue dominate, and the symbols move from card royals at the low end to themed pictures at the top: Egyptian gods, relics and treasures. Nothing is cluttered, and the game loads quickly even on an older phone.

The free spins

The goal in Rise of Ra is the free spins round, triggered by scatter symbols landing anywhere on the reels. The info screen states how many scatters you need and how many spins you get; it is worth reading before you start, since EGT’s Egyptian slots do not all handle the bonus in the same way. During the round, the reels keep the same look but the tension changes: every spin is free, and the big themed symbols are the ones that make a difference.

Outside the bonus, the base game is a straightforward line slot. Small wins on royals keep the balance ticking, while the higher symbols carry the larger pays.

The gamble option

As with nearly every EGT slot, any win can be taken to the gamble screen. Guess red or black on a hidden card to double, or lose the amount. It is a quick decision and you are never forced into it.

The Rise of Ra demo starts with 1,000 virtual credits, no account and no download. Because the free spins are the main event, give it a proper sample: 300 spins at the equivalent of £0.10 a line. Write down how many spins each bonus took to arrive and what it paid. Two or three rounds tell you far more than a single lucky one. If you enjoy the theme, Book of Magic and Egypt Sky from the same studio offer different takes on it. The same game runs for real money at the casinos listed below.
